National Service Scheme
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a flagship youth development programme of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, dedicated to fostering the holistic development of students through meaningful community service. As a voluntary movement, NSS provides young people with opportunities to contribute to society while cultivating values such as social responsibility, leadership, teamwork, and compassion.
The primary objective of NSS is to develop the personality and character of students through active participation in community-oriented activities. Volunteers strive to serve society without discrimination, working to improve the quality of life of underprivileged communities and promote the ideals of dignity, equality, and social justice. Through their service, students gain valuable life skills, develop empathy, and learn to become responsible citizens.
NSS volunteers also play a vital role during natural disasters and emergencies by extending relief through activities such as distributing food, clothing, and essential supplies, providing first aid, and supporting rehabilitation efforts.
Christian College, Chengannur proudly hosts two NSS units (Unit 44 A & Unit 44 B), comprising 100 dedicated volunteers. The units actively organize and participate in a wide range of community outreach programmes, awareness campaigns, environmental initiatives, health camps, blood donation drives, and social service activities, strengthening the bond between the college and the local community.
With their unwavering commitment, enthusiasm, and spirit of selfless service, the NSS units of Christian College, Chengannur have earned several prestigious awards and recognitions for their outstanding performance and significant contributions to society.
