The Department of Zoology is one of the premier departments of the College, known for its academic excellence and rich legacy. Established in 1964 as the Department of Biology, it initially offered classes for pre-degree students, with faculty members from both Zoology and Botany. In 1967, the department introduced the B.Sc. Degree course in Zoology, marking a significant milestone in its academic journey. The department has a proud history of academic achievements and is recognized for its contributions to scientific research and education. It is now a DST-FIST-sponsored department, further strengthening its research infrastructure. It was elevated to the status of a Post Graduate Department in 2013.
Currently, the department has five permanent faculty members along with distinguished guest faculty, ensuring a dynamic and comprehensive learning environment for students. With a strong commitment to academic excellence, research, and student development, the Department of Zoology continues to thrive as a center of learning and innovation.
